About Home Energy Raters of Illinois

Our mission at Home Energy Raters of Illinois is to improve the quality of our environment by reducing the amount of fossil fuels that we consume. We seek to increase the energy efficiency of our housing stock by providing informational resources to building professionals, real estate professionals, and homeowners. We are committed to using only scientific and quantifiable testing methods, as we evaluate all components of the home which may contribute to unnecessary energy usage and which affect the health and comfort of the occupants.

Frank Pipal, Executive Director of HERI

Frank, Executive Director of Home Energy Raters of Illinois

Our founding member and Executive Director, Frank Pipal, is a Certified BPI Training Affiliate, Certified RESNET Training Provider, and Home Energy Rater. He attended Manhattanville College where he received bachelor's degrees in Mathematics and Psychology. After attending the University of Illinois Graduate School Of Business, he became a Certified Public Accountant. Since then he has spent over twenty years in the residential building industry as both a builder and general contractor.

Frank is a highly active member of his community and has served on the Board of Directors of his local neighborhood association. He tutors Mathematics regularly on a volunteer basis at Family Matters, a non-profit community organization in Chicago.

Home Energy Raters of Illinois is both a labor of love, and a perfect use of the knowledge that Frank has acquired throughout his life. Frank, through his development of Home Energy Raters of Illinois, LLC., is also a member of the Illinois Association of Energy Raters, a BPI Affiliate Organization, a member of RESNET and the National SAVE Energy Coalition, and an Energy Star® Partner.
